Aya Mousawi was the Director of Cultural Programming for Aorist, a leading cultural institution at the intersection of art and technology. The first culture-led initiative supporting a climate-forward NFT marketplace for high-value, blue-chip artists, Aorist commissioned and delivered large-scale physical & virtual artworks and installations by leading practitioners across international platforms, including Art Basel Miami Beach (2021 and 2022) and la Biennale di Venezia (2022). Aorist became recognised for bridging the gap between the digital and physical world, and supporting some of the world's leading artists to push the boundaries of their practice and redefine the use of technology in art. Major commissions include Refik Anadol’s first-ever public artwork, Machine Hallucinations: Coral Reef, on Miami Beach; Random International's iconic Living Room, an immersive light installation; and Studio DRIFT’s Social Sacrifice, the first-ever indoor aerial drone installation, in the magnificent Church of San Lorenzo for the 2022 Biennale di Venezia. Mousawi brought collaborators into the project as consultants and team members.
